U.S. Civics for Immigrants (USCFI)

Recent immigrants need to understand American civics and society in order to become more productive and successful members of our communities. LVWRC has created a powerful tool to address this need – a classroom curriculum that specifically targets non-English speakers who may have low literacy in their home languages.

USCFI stresses real life topics of immediate relevance to recent immigrants. As a result of focus group research, ten topics have been identified:

  • Family
  • Getting comfortable in the US
  • Housing
  • Faith in Institutions
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Health and Safety
  • Police and Judiciary
  • Government
  • Community

Since inception, two additional modules have been added:

  • Financial Literacy
  • Consumer Awareness
