Yonkers Public Library (YPL) is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15). The Hispanic community is essential to Yonkers, comprising about 37% of the city’s population, according to the 2019 American Community Survey. The library is committed to recognizing Hispanic culture and history through in-person events, virtual programs and its diverse, multilingual collection of books and digital resources.
The library also supports the Yonkers Hispanic community by encouraging its members – like all Yonkers residents – to be counted in the 2020 Census so that they can be properly represented and funded. Regardless of citizenship or immigration status, all residents are eligible to fill out the census, which is secure, confidential and never shared with other government agencies – including law enforcement.
