Days in Yonkers Public Library History – National Library Week Celebration

Hello, everyone! I hope you all are safe and healthy. I hope the videos that are linked in this post will provide comic relief and entertainment to you in this trying time. The video quality is at times fuzzy due to their age, but I think you will enjoy them nonetheless.

By Nancy Wong – Own work

On April 17, 1991,  George Plimpton gave a talk at the Grinton I. Will Library. He described sports that he played (baseball, basketball, and even boxing) and participation in a circus. He was a great storyteller and he had the audience laughing for much of his talk. Luckily for us, his talk was filmed. It has been uploaded to the Yonkers Public Library digital archive and divided into three parts.

See below to watch the video footage:

On April 18, 1993, children and young adults between the ages of 8 and 18 recited slam poetry at the Will Library. I found the talent of these young artists to be exceptional!

You can watch the poetry slam concert on the Yonkers Public Library YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRQeo-SPsqc&feature=youtu.be
