Friends of Crestwood at Untermyer Gardens

This Tuesday, December 13, join the Friends of Crestwood for hot chocolate at the Grand Holiday Illumination at the Untermyer Gardens.

This year’s Grand Holiday Illumination is running from December 9th to January 1st from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM. No registration is required and admission is free.

Beginning in 2015, the Grand Holiday Illumination is a spectacle of more than 100,00 lights in the Walled Garden. Visitors can walk around freely while listening to Christian, Hindu, Jewish, and Zoroastrian (ancient Persian) music.

The history of the Untermyer Gardens began in 1899 when Samuel Untermyer purchased the Greystone estate. He transformed the gardens into a beautiful sight that was visited by many through the 1920s and 30s. After Samuel Untermyer’s death, much of the land fell into disrepair and the property changed many hands. The Gardens as we know them today are thanks to the revitalization efforts of community leaders in the 1990s.
