Marketing Manager Search

Yonkers Public Library (YPL) seeks a dynamic and dedicated library leader professional to serve as its Manager of Public Relations and Marketing. Reporting to the Library Director, and working collaboratively with a diverse and talented management team and staff from YPL’s three locations, the manager will play a key role in building awareness around library services and impact. Excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This position is responsible for overseeing the execution of Yonkers Public Library’s marketing and public relations strategies in support of building awareness for library services and programs and communicates the value of the library to the community. The work includes community analysis research and the development of marketing strategies to reach targeted audiences, as well as the creation and execution of large scale marketing and/or public relations campaigns. The work also includes, but would not be limited to, creating advertising, signage, print publications, social media, web presence, and electronic content to further the goals and objectives of the library. While the ability to exercise independent judgment and make independent decisions is a requirement, general direction is received from administrative personnel. Direct supervision is exercised over assigned personnel. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES(Illustrative Only)
  • Develops operational marketing plan including goals, objectives, strategies, and plans formarketing and communications of the library;
  • Designs and directs marketing and public relations efforts to achieve established goals, with significant emphasis on media and community relations, marketing communications, market research, and brand management;
  • Interacts extensively in person, over the telephone, via e-mail and social media, with library system staff, patrons, partners, media, outside agencies, and vendors;
  • Develops positive and beneficial contacts and relationships with media representatives to create opportunities for keeping the library and its products, services, events, and programs in front of the public;
  • Serves as primary spokesperson along with Library Director and Deputy Director to the media for library information, fielding and directing responses to media-related inquiries;
  • Manages, writes, edits, and assigns as needed, readable copy for social media, newsletters, brochures, public service announcements, and other assigned formats for the purpose of promoting library services and programs;
  • Plans and implements system special events and assists with special projects, including assisting in organizing special events, preparing pre- and post- publicity, and developing proposals for library events related to strategic planning;
  • Represents library at community forums, workshops, seminars, and serves on community and library committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, Communications and/or Journalism and three (3) years of experience in public relations, marketing or a related field; or
  2. Possession of an Associate’s in Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, Communications and/or Journalism and five (5) years of experience in public relations, marketing or a related field; or
  3. An equivalent combination of education/training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a Class D Driver’s License valid in the state of New York.

This is a Civil Service appointment, requiring the candidate to be reachable on the Manager of Public Relations and Marketing Certification of Eligibles list, which is determined by a training and experience test as established by the Yonkers Civil Service Commission.  There is no current list.
