As of Friday, April 17, 2020, New Yorkers must wear face coverings when social distancing is not possible, including while on public transport, in stores, and on crowded sidewalks. Below are a few do-it-yourself (DIY) sites to help you make masks for children and adults. 

How to make a DIY no-sew face mask for adults and children

The Centers for Disease Control offers instructions for effective wearing, care, and crafting of simple fabric masks. They suggest 3 easy designs: 

  • A do-it-yourself, no-sewing cloth mask made with only a bandanna or scarf and 2 rubber bands
  • A more basic no-sewing version cut from a t-shirt 
  • A 2-ply design requiring a sewing machine
