National Crossword Puzzle Day

National Crossword Puzzle Day is December 21st. The first crossword puzzle was published in 1913 in the New York World and the love of the word game spread quickly throughout the country and around the world.

Crossword puzzles can be simple or complex, but they are all designed the same way. The puzzle is a diagram of blank, white squares and canceled black squares. You are given two lists of numbered clues, one for horizontal words and one for vertical words, and the number of each clue corresponds to a specific square on the diagram. Each square is filled in with a particular letter and the words cross over each other, giving the puzzle its name.

Whether you’re an avid puzzler or a newbie to crosswords, we hope you take some time today to solve this crossword about the Yonkers Public Library.
