Human beings have always told each other stories, from the earliest days of cave drawings to the modern day. Gathering together to read stories is an important part of our social lives, and it’s especially important for young people. Research shows that reading to babies can assist in language development, and as they grow, it can help children improve their cognitive development and prepare them for academic success.
This week, from January 30th to February 6th, is National Storytelling Week. The stories that we read in books can teach, inspire and influence us. We hope that you take the time this week to read to yourself, to others, or to bring along a young reader in your life to one of our storytime and reading programs this week at your local branch.
We hope to see you soon!
