Yonkers Public Library (YPL) is saddened to learn of the death of Yonkers native Pat Quinn at age 37.
Pat Quinn is best known for championing the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral campaign in 2014 embraced by everyone from LeBron James to Oprah Winfrey. In doing so, he helped raise awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as A.L.S.), and over $220 million to fight the disease.
In honor of Pat Quinn and his too-short but inspiring life, YPL has curated a list of books about others who faced adversity from diseases. In many cases, the books’ subjects – like Pat – used their struggles as an opportunity to advocate for others by advancing research, awareness and understanding.
