Online School Resources

Yonkers Public Library (YPL) is dedicated to providing quality eBooks and online learning resources for Yonkers students for education, enrichment and escape.

The following collections and online resources can be accessed using a YPL library card barcode number and PIN. If you’ve never had a library card we can set up a virtual one for you if you fill out this form. If you need to re-register your account or reset your PIN you can email info@ypl.org or call 914-375-7953.

If you teach in Yonkers but do not live in the city we encourage you to apply for a YPL Educator Card.

When setting up accounts on many of these services, please choose “Westchester Library System.”

Homework Help and Test Preparation

Tutor.com – Free Live Homework Help – An online tutoring service that connects students to qualified tutors in math, science, social studies, and English via the Internet.  Online tutoring is available Monday-Friday, 9 am-10 pm and Saturday-Sunday, 3-10 pm.  Note: Password is your 4-digit library card pin #.

Learning Express –  Students and adult learners can improve their skills required for academic and career success.  Some practice tests include TASC, SAT, PSAT, ACT, and AP. Plus, there are practice sets and tutorials to develop skills in math, reading, writing, and basic sciences.

Kids InfoBits – For students in kindergarten through grade five.  It features a kid-friendly graphic interface with full-text content from elementary reference sources and magazines. Kids InfoBits covers geography, current events, the arts and sciences, people, government, history, and more.

Biography in Context (in GALENET) – Contains biographies searchable by date of birth, nationality, and more. Note: Yonkers Public Library card needed to access information from home.  

Britannica School – A source for all grades (Pre-K-12) and all reading abilities.  Available at three levels–elementary, middle, and high.

Britannica Academic  – Includes Encyclopedia Britannica plus Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, magazines and periodicals, and many other research tools.

General Onefile (in INFOTRAC) – A one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics. Millions of full-text articles, many with images. Updated daily.

School Center – Offers worksheets, lessons, videos, and more resources for study, test prep, and careers.
