Westchester Power Virtual Information Sessions

Yonkers Public Library (YPL) is pleased to co-sponsor two virtual information sessions with the nonprofit organization Sustainable Westchester about Westchester Power, “a community-based bulk energy purchasing program intended to control costs and increase the use of renewable energy in Westchester County.”

The Westchester Power program launched in 2016, and now includes 28 municipalities as members. Using their combined buying power, Westchester Power is able to negotiate competitive pricing from suppliers of 100% renewable energy. Since the program began it has mitigated over 830,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases – which is the equivalent of planting about 13.7 million tree seedlings and growing them for ten years, or taking 180,000 cars off the road for a year.

The City of Yonkers is now considering participating in the Westchester Power program. These information sessions will describe more about how the program works, and what it means for Yonkers residents.
