Message from the YPL Director regarding closures

Thursday, November 12 – The Grinton I. Will Library will remain closed on Friday and Saturday. It will reopen on Monday, November 16 with reduced hours for the week: 12-5pm, Monday-Saturday. All due dates will be extended for the period of the closure, as will any deadlines for picking up reserved materials. The Crestwood and Riverfront libraries will retain their normal hours of service during that time.

We apologize for the disruption in service, and thank you for your understanding.

Wednesday, November 11 – The Grinton I. Will Library will remain closed on Thursday, November 12. Some staff members that were potentially exposed to another employee who tested positive for COVID-19 are still awaiting test results. Until we can confidently determine that these employees are free of infection we can not open and operate the library safely and efficiently. We appreciate the support and well wishes expressed by the community. We hope to be able to reopen the library shortly, but will not do so until we can better guarantee the health and safety of the staff and public.

Please know that when the library reopens it will be deep cleaned and disinfected and the staff will be able to safely serve the public. In the meantime, the Riverfront Library and Crestwood Library will remain open with their normal hours of service. Thank you again for your patience.

Monday, November 9 – Today, Monday, November 9 we learned that a staff member at the Grinton I. Will Library tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance with our pandemic operations plan, we are closing the Will Library today and tomorrow (and will remain closed on Wednesday, November 11 in observation of Veterans Day). We are taking these actions out of concern for health and safety of our staff and patrons.

While we remain closed our expert custodial team will perform a deep cleaning of the building. During this time we are also giving other employees the option to monitor their health and get tested as necessary. When we make a determination about whether we can reopen on Thursday, November 12 we will update this page.

Riverfront Library and Crestwood Library will maintain their normal hours of service while the Will Library remains closed.

If you are a recent visitor to Will Library and are concerned, please note that all library staff wear masks at all times during library hours of service. Our custodial team sanitizes public areas with special attention to high touch surfaces like door handles, elevator buttons, and bannisters multiples times a day. Our operations are designed such that no staff member ever has close, prolonged contact (defined by the CDC as being within six feet for more than 15 minutes in a 24 hour period) with patrons – the conditions under which the transmission of COVID-19 becomes a greater risk.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate the challenges of providing library service during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have any questions please contact me at, or Rose Avilés, Community Services Coordinator, at
