The Yonkers Public Library is committed to serving the community and fostering the personal growth of all its citizens. The Yonkers Public Library was established in 1893 to serve the citizens of the City of Yonkers. In 1903 the "Carnegie" library (pictured on left) was built with a $50,000 donation from Andrew Carnegie. There are currently three branches; the Riverfront Branch in downtown Yonkers, the Grinton I. Will Branch on Central Avenue and the Crestwood Branch in the Crestwood section of the city.

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees of the Yonkers Public Library serves as the voice of our community in the Library. The policies and practices of the Library are set and overseen by the Board, and the Library Director is appointed by the Board. The seven members of the Board are appointed to five year terms by the Board of Education. The Trustees are:
Nancy L. Maron, President ('16)
Nancy is Program Director for Sustainability and Scholarly Communications at the not-for-profit organization Ithaka S+R where she and her team help publishers, librarians, and leaders of digital initiatives to develop sustainable business models. She is author of several studies on sustainability and business planning, including A Guide to the Best Revenue Models and Funding Sources for Your Digital Resources (2014) and Sustaining the Digital Humanities: Host Institution Support beyond the Start-up Phase (2014).
Nancy participates locally as part of the Yonkers School Library Committee and the Yonkers Committee on Smart Development, and as the area captain for the Yale Alumni Schools Committee. She and her husband have lived in Yonkers since 1999 and have two daughters in the Yonkers Public Schools.
Gregory D. Arcaro, Vice President ('18)
Greg has worked as a city planner in the community development and affordable housing fields for the private, non-profit and public sectors since 1968 and has volunteered with a number of community organizations. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Community Planning Council of Yonkers.
He is a Board member the Yonkers Chamber of Commerce and Yonkers Historical Society and is a member of the Yonkers Rotary Club, the Mercy Center Board of Advisors (The Bronx, NY) and the Westchester Italian Cultural Center.
Greg has taught at SUNY-Lehman and SUNY-Purchase Colleges as an adjunct instructor and at Neighborhood Reinvestment’s National Training Institute. Greg graduated from New York University Master’s Program in City Planning and Holy Cross College. He is a veteran having served in the U.S Air Force from 1970-72. Greg resides with his wife, Janice, in Yonkers where they raised two children, Rebecca and Michael.
Alexandre Olbrecht, Treasurer ('17)
Alex is an associate professor of economics at Ramapo College of New Jersey, has served as Executive Director of the Eastern Economic Association from 2009-2014, and is also a member of the board of directors of Volumetric, a locally based mutual fund.
He has served the people of Yonkers previously as a member of the downtown re-zoning committee representing the citizens of downtown Yonkers. Dr. Olbrecht has made his home in the newly redeveloped downtown since 2007 where he resides with his wife Lindsey, his child Hudson, and his dog Georgia.
Jim Buckley ('17)
Jim is a retired Special Education teacher.
He and his wife own a beverage auditing business in Southern Westchester and have lived in Yonkers since 1995. Their two children are both proud graduates of the Yonkers Public Schools.
John P. Margand ('15)
John P. Margand has been practicing personal injury law since 1990. He is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. He has been successful in securing millions of dollars in awards and settlements for his clients. John served from 2000 to 2008 as Executive Director and then CEO of Program Reach, a New York-based charity whose character-based youth development program, Healthy Respect, has received national recognition for its role in establishing best practices in the rapidly field of sexual health education. John has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2011.
Harris M. Lirtzman ('18)
Harris was an investment banker, senior officer with the New York City Retirement System and Deputy New York State Comptroller for Administration. He was a special education math teacher for three years in the Bronx before retiring in 2012.
He received a BA in history from Stanford University, an MA in urban policy from Harvard University and a MS.Ed from the City College of New York.
Harris has lived in Yonkers with his partner of thirteen years, Ralph Wilson, since 2013.

Friends of the Library
The Yonkers Public Library has two Friends groups: Friends of the Yonkers Public Library and Friends of the Crestwood Library. Through fund raising and book sales, Friends sponsor special programs and donate books, furnishings, etc., which the Library's operating budget cannot provide.
