Legal workers and attorneys for the Next Door Project, part of New York's Community Service Society, help low-income New Yorkers request and understand their criminal records by:
- Teaching people with criminal records about their rights;
- Requesting individuals’ criminal records (for free if their income is no higher than 200% of the federal poverty level);
- Fixing mistakes, sealing eligible cases, and addressing open warrants;
- Applying for certificates to reduce convictions' impact; helping people talk about their convictions in a positive way; and creating personal portfolios to highlight clients’ strengths;
- Legally representing people who have been denied a job, a license to do a job, or public or private housing because of their criminal records.
Join us for a presentation by Next Door Project staff and attorneys and learn how you can gain control over your own records.
