Program Description
Event Details
Rocket science did not begin at Cape Canaveral, Houston, or the Jet Propulsion Lab in California. It started on the east coast and improbably, Crestwood played a role in what was once thought to be an implausible, impossible, and frankly crazy idea: putting humans into outer space.
Former Crestwood resident and Crestwood Historical Society Board Member Mark Maiello will discuss how over 90 years ago, the Pendrays became major players in the early phase of American Rocket Engineering, and how Ed Pendray defied time at the 1939 New York World's Fair, influenced thousands of kids to pursue careers in science and why he "came to the rescue" of Dr. Robert Goddard, the Father of American rocketry.
