Good Hang with Amy Poehler is an entertaining and humorous podcast. This podcast is a hilarious mix of comedy, personal stories, and not-too-serious conversations with guests. I listened to the episodes with Michelle Obama and Idris Elba, which are full of interesting stories and comedy. Listeners will appreciate the humour and the uplighting conversations.
Before interviewing Michelle Obama, Poehler talks to Craig Robinson about Obama. Robinson describes how they shared a room together until he became a teenager and how they bonded while sharing this space. Poehler and Obama talk about the episode of Parks and Recreation that Obama appeared in. Poehler describes drooling on herself in their first while filming because Poehler was overwhelmed by Obama’s presence. Obama tells stories about pranks her mother (Marian) did on her family. While her brother Craig was in the shower, Marian lay on the ground outside of it and when he got out he was startled to see her. Obama describes enjoying “normal things” since being out of the spotlight, such as driving in the car and singing with her daughter. This is a hilarious episode that fans of Michelle Obama will love.
Idris Elba and Poehler discuss Elba’s character Stringer Bell in The Wire. Though fans of the show will agree on the superb acting of Elba in the show, Elba is self-conscious about his American accent and has never watched The Wire. He also talks about how people assume he is a tough guy because of the roles he has played in shows and movies but in reality he is very easy-going. Elba describes his busy schedule that consists of acting during the day and then deejaying at night and into the early morning. Their conversation is interesting and very humorous.
New episodes of Good Hang with Amy Poehler are uploaded weekly. The episodes that I listened to are hilarious and really upbeat. I highly recommend this podcast to anyone that enjoys comedy.
Another great source of comedy is Amy Poehler’s autobiography Yes Please. It can be placed on hold through the Westchester Library System catalog.
Michael Walsh is an Adult Services Librarian at the Will Library. He enjoys reading American history and he is a big Stephen King fan.
