In October, Baker & Taylor - a two hundred year old book distributor that was YPL’s (and the nation’s) main provider of books to public libraries - announced that it would cease operations in early 2026.
Although YPL anticipated this unfortunate event and began transitioning business to other booksellers earlier this year, the marketplace for library books and America’s 9000 public libraries have been reeling from Baker & Taylor’s collapse.
As such, you may experience delays in books hitting library shelves and longer wait times for hold requests. In the meantime we encourage you to explore borrowing e-books through our main digital distributors - Libby (80,000 titles) and Hoopla (1.5 million titles), or to search our catalog, browse our shelves, or get librarian recommendations for books we do have available.
