About the Riverfront Art Gallery

The Riverfront Art Gallery is located on the 4th floor of the Riverfront Library, the main branch of the Yonkers Public Library (3D model of gallery).  The gallery exhibits contemporary, nationally and internationally acclaimed artwork. We also strive to promote the work of local artists. The mission of the gallery is to present a diverse and balanced schedule of exhibits of high caliber, progressive artwork and related programs not frequently seen in Yonkers and surrounding communities.  Haifa Bint-Kadi is the curator for the gallery and schedules exhibits generally one year in advance. To contact the curator, email: haifa@ypl.org

The Black Iconic

Riverfront Library:  February 2 – March 31, 2023

Artist Talk with Ricardo Osmondo Francis: Sunday, February 26, 1-2:30 pm

“THE BLACK ICONIC”  is a solo art exhibition of recent paintings by Newark based mixed media artist and curator Ricardo Osmondo Francis.

Inspired by the complexity of African American identity, mythology, and painting itself, this exhibit features a wide array of Francis’ luminous paintings. Thematically the work delves into the Black identity through an often spiritual gaze all while commenting on pop culture, politics, sexuality, and also from the artist’s own life. Visually this exhibition is a brooding elegiac vision of the Black visage delineated in both grand decadence and technically through densely evocative images that are steeped in multicultural symbolism.  All in all this exhibition deeply examines how Black people are perceived both socially and politically on the world stage.
